Radiesse® is an injectable product that allows to reshape, correct and embellish the face without the need for surgery. The product has an immediate and long-lasting effect.
The advantages
Radiesse® is a volumising product based on calcium hydroxylapatite, which is a form of calcium naturally present in the body. Therefore, Radiesse® is safe to use and does not pose any risk of rejection or allergy. It is fully resorbable and completely biocompatible.
Radiesse® is used for two main indications: filling wrinkles and restoring volumes. It redraws the oval of the face. It is a highly effective filler for deep wrinkles, mouth corners, marionette lines, facial drooping and nasogenian folds.
The course of the session
The duration of the session varies according to the indication to be treated. The treatment takes on average twenty to thirty minutes. The doctor establishes a diagnosis for each patient in order to determine the exact points in which the injections will be made to obtain an optimal result.
After cleansing and removing make-up from the skin, the doctor injects the Radiesse® a few millimetres deep into the dermis, using a very fine needle. The injection is not much painful because the product contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic that increases patient comfort during treatment. If necessary, an anaesthetic ointment can be applied on the treated area.
Effects of the injections
After the injection of Radiesse®, some mild side effects may occur. The injection area may become sensitive, and some redness and/or swelling may appear, but these will disappear after about 24 hours. The injections leave no marks nor scars, and you can resume your activities immediately.
The results
The results are already visible at the end of the session. Haematomas, redness or ecchymoses (bruises) may appear within 24 hours after the injection. Slight swelling may persist for 2 to 5 days but is always reversible.
Immediately after the injection, the carrier gel slowly resorbs and has completely disappeared after 4 months. During this time, the calcium crystals stimulate the cells of the dermis (called fibroblasts) which synthesise collagen. The latter forms a kind of scaffolding in the dermis and fills in the space of the carrier gel. Radiesse® therefore uses the body’s natural processes to naturally stimulate the collagen production.
The effects of Radiesse® last from 12 to 18 months, depending on the patient.
