The principle

Laser hair removal

Excessive hair growth can have a negative impact on self-confidence, and regular waxing or shaving can quickly become laborious and expensive. That’s why laser hair removal can be the right solution.

Claris Clinic offers each patient a treatment tailored to his or her needs, whether for a large area such as the back, or an intimate zone such as the bikini line. The light emitted by the laser is attracted by the pigment (melanin) present in the hair follicle. The heat is then absorbed by the hair and destroys its root. Darker hairs are therefore easier to treat. Given the absence of melanin, light-colored hairs are sometimes difficult to remove during a laser hair removal treatment session.

Definitive laser hair removal has the advantage of being permanent, painless, preventing ingrown hairs and demonstrating its effectiveness from the very first treatment session.

Why choose permanent laser hair removal?

Permanent laser hair removal offers many advantages, such as :

  • Permanent hair removal: unlike other temporary hair removal methods such as pulsed light, wax or depilatory cream, permanent laser hair removal aims to destroy hair follicles permanently.
  • Eliminate and prevent ingrown hairs.
  • Precision and safety: the laser precisely targets hair follicles, meaning unwanted hair can be removed without damaging the skin and surrounding structures.
  • Time-saving: permanent laser hair removal can be performed on large areas of the body in a single session, which can be more convenient than temporary hair removal methods that require regular maintenance.
  • Low pain: although pain levels may vary from person to person, permanent laser hair removal is generally considered to be low-pain, and can be tolerated without anesthesia.
  • Cost advantage : hair is permanently eliminated in just a few sessions, unlike other methods which require a lifelong investment.

Laser hair removal treatment therefore offers a fast, effective and long-lasting solution for permanently getting rid of unwanted body and facial hair. However, it’s important to choose a qualified professional for your laser hair removal session to minimize the risk of side effects. At Claris Clinic, waxing is performed by nurses under medical supervision .

How does an appointment work?

Before starting a permanent laser hair removal treatment, it’s important to discuss your expectations and medical history with our specialists to determine whether laser hair removal is the right solution for you. This information consultation is offered free of charge.

You will be asked not to expose yourself to the sun, not to use certain depilatory methods for several weeks before the session, and to shave the area to be depilated no later than the day before the appointment. Once you’ve made yourself comfortable, the specialist will give you protective eyewear to shield your eyes from the laser light. A contact gel is applied to the skin to be depilated. A handpiece is applied to the area to be treated. It features a cooling head for added comfort. During laser hair removal, pulses are sent to the hair follicles to destroy them. Warming and stinging sensations are perfectly normal. Treatment time will depend on the size of the area to be depilated. For example, laser hair removal from underarms takes around 15 minutes, and from full legs around an hour.

After the session, a soothing cream is applied. The skin may show some redness and slight swelling, which will quickly disappear.

Which areas can be treated?

Permanent laser hair removal can be used to eliminate unwanted hair on various parts of the face and body. The most commonly treated areas include, but are not limited to:

How many sessions are required?

The number of appointments you need depends on the area to be depilated, your skin type and the color of your hair.

hair anatomyThe laser acts on hair pigmentation (melanin), and is most effective during the hair growth phase (anagen phase). Not all hairs are simultaneously affected by this phase. Several laser hair removal sessions are therefore necessary . The number of sessions depends on the area of skin to be treated and the number of hairs in the resting phase. When the hair returns to its active phase, further treatment sessions are required.

After 6 to 8 sessions, laser hair removal results in permanent hair removal. 80 to 90% of your hair is permanently destroyed after treatment. A touch-up session is possible once or twice a year, as the body may produce a few new hairs, for example during hormonal changes.

It should be noted that white, grey and red hairs cannot be treated effectively, as they are low in melanin. The same applies to dark and black skin, which is highly charged with melanin and therefore at risk of burning.

F.A.Q.

Is laser hair removal really permanent?

The laser’s energy is converted into heat and eliminates the hair bulb. Any hair destroyed is therefore permanently destroyed. Hormonal variations (pregnancy, menopause, etc.) can cause a few new hairs to grow. One or two annual maintenance sessions are recommended. Laser is THE MOST effective method of elimination.

Is laser hair removal possible on light-colored hair?

Laser energy is absorbed by the hair pigment, melanin. This makes it more difficult, and sometimes impossible, to remove blond, red, gray and white hairs, as well as down.

Is permanent laser hair removal dangerous?

At Claris Clinic, hair removal is carried out by specialized nurses, under medical supervision and after prior consultation to check for any contraindications. The risk of burns is very limited, as the laser energy is absorbed by the hair’s melanin without damaging surrounding tissue. Redness and sometimes slight swelling may occur immediately after the session, but these disappear very quickly.

Laser hair removal cannot be performed on tanned skin (sun, sunbed, self-tanner).

How many sessions are required?

The laser is used to remove hair in the growth phase (anagen phase). At each session, only these hairs (15-20%) will be destroyed. Hair falls out spontaneously 10 to 15 days after the treatment. Depending on the area to be depilated, hair type and skin type, an average of 6 to 8 sessions are required, spaced 3 to 6 weeks apart.

What's the difference between pulsed light and laser?

Intense pulsed light weakens and refines hair without actually destroying it. Hair can grow back. Laser treatment completely destroys hair at the root. It can no longer grow back.

Is it painful?

Sensation varies from zone to zone, and also depends on individual sensitivity. The sensation is comparable to light needle pricks. A laser hair removal session must be slightly painful to be effective. Our lasers are equipped with a skin cooling system to limit the unpleasant sensation, and it is also possible to apply an anaesthetic cream before the session.
