The principle of tensor threads

How tensor threads work: tensor threads are an innovative solution in aesthetic medicine for skin rejuvenation and to counter sagging facial tissue. Using a fine needle, they are inserted under the skin of the face atAbsorbable threads. Once in place, they are tightened to lift and tighten the skin, thanks to small asperities all along the thread. These threads are absorbable and dissolve naturally after about 9 months post-treatment, leaving firmer, younger-looking skin.

Diversity of tensor threads: there are several types of tensor thread, each designed to meet specific needs related to sagging facial skin. Whether you’re looking to lift your eyebrows, redefine the oval of your face or firm up your neck, there’s a thread to suit. Your doctor will guide you towards the type of thread best suited to your aesthetic goals.

Advantages of tensor threads: absorbable tensor threads offer many advantages. In addition to providing an immediate lifting effect, they are minimally invasive and require little recovery time. They also stimulate collagen production, which can improve the quality of your skin in the long term. Finally, tensor threads are generally well tolerated and non-allergenic, making them safe for most patients.

Indications for tensor threads

Redefining the oval of the face: notched tensor threads can be used to redefine the oval of the face, restoring tension to slack areas and supporting sagging tissues.

Lift jowls: tensor threads are effective for lifting jowl tissues, creating a facelift effect without surgery.

Lifting the neck: absorbable tensor threads can also be used to lift the neck, re-tensioning sagging skin.

Reduce bitterness folds and nasolabial folds: tensor threads can help reduce bitterness folds and nasolabial folds, stimulating collagen production and reversing sagging skin in this part of the face.

Lifting eyebrows: tensor threads can be used to lift eyebrows, creating a lifting effect without surgery.

The procedure

A preliminary consultation with the specialist doctor at one of our aesthetic clinics in Belgium will enable us to discuss your medical history and expectations.

Before starting the procedure, the doctor determines the route and number of threads to be used on your face. A local anaesthetic is then applied to ensure your comfort during the procedure.

Absorbable threads are inserted under the skin using a micro cannula, a method that leaves no scars. The threads, with their multiple asperities, are fixed under the skin without the need for sutures, enabling the skin tissue to be lifted.

Notched tensor threads are generally well tolerated and do not cause allergies. You can resume your usual activities immediately after the procedure. The tightening effect of the threads is visible as soon as they are in place, but definitive results appear after a few days. These results are optimized in the days and weeks that follow, thanks to the stimulation of new collagen fiber production induced by the threads. Tensor threads can be used in conjunction with other aesthetic medicine treatments, such as hyaluronic acid injections.

Side effects and risks

Common side effects: following a tensor thread procedure, slight swelling and bruising may occur in the treated areas. These manifestations are usually temporary, resolving within a few days. Discomfort or mild pain may also be experienced, but is often well controlled with painkillers.

Potential complications: although rare, complications can occur after a tensor thread procedure. These can include infections, allergic reactions to the thread material, and skin irregularities if the thread moves or the skin does not retract properly.

Preventing complications: to reduce the risk of complications, it’s essential to follow all post-procedure instructions provided by your doctor. This may include avoiding certain physical activities or applying cold compresses to reduce swelling.

Results and their duration

The tightening effect of the threads on your face is perceptible immediately after the procedure. However, the final results are usually visible a few days after the procedure, once any swelling or bruising has disappeared.

The effects of tensor threads are temporary, generally lasting from 1 to 3 years, depending on the type of thread used and your body’s individual response. Over time, the threads dissolve and are naturally absorbed by your body.

To maintain the results obtained, and continue to counteract the sagging of your facial tissues, follow-up treatments may be necessary. This may include additional tightening thread placements, as well as other non-invasive aesthetic treatments to improve skin quality and stimulate collagen production.
