Elipse Program

The Elipse balloon is a soft balloon that is placed in the stomach and filled with liquid. It is the only gastric balloon that does not require surgery, endoscopy or anaesthesia for placement or removal (*). The balloon is placed during a brief 20-minute appointment with the doctor.
After about 16 weeks, the balloon empties and leaves the body naturally.

(*) In rare cases, the Elipse balloon may require endoscopic or surgical intervention for removal.

You will swallow a capsule that contains the deflated balloon along with a thin tube. As soon as an X-ray confirms that the balloon is in the stomach,  it is filled with 550 ml of a harmless liquid through a catheter. The balloon is placed during a brief 20-minute appointment with the doctor.

Most people can easily swallow the Elipse balloon. People who do have difficulty swallowing it can be assisted by their doctor, who will use a stylet to guide the placement of the balloon (still without endoscopy or anaesthesia).

After approval by the doctor, most people are able to return to normal activity within two or three days, but some people experience nausea, abdominal cramps, and occasionally vomiting after placement of the balloon.
In most cases, these symptoms are well-controlled with the commonly used medication prescribed by your doctor.

The balloon stays in the stomach for about 16 weeks, after which its valve will open and the balloon will deflate and leave the body naturally through the gastrointestinal tract, without the need for a removal procedure.

After the balloon passes, the Elipse Program and the support from the care team continue for a month to help you consolidate your new lifestyle habits and maximise your weight loss.

With doctor’s approval, there are no absolute dietary restrictions with the Elipse Program. However, to maximise weight loss and optimise comfort, your nutritionist will make recommendations and a nutrition plan tailored to your specific needs.

A recent clinical study has shown that after following 16 weeks of treatment with the Elipse balloon, patients on average lost 13 to 15 kg. Results can of course vary from patient to patient.

The Elipse balloon is intended for adults over 18 years of age who are obese or overweight, as defined by a Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥ 27. Some people may not be in a condition to have the Elipse balloon placed. Any contraindications should be discussed with the care team.

During a consultation, our doctor will review your medical history in detail and perform a physical examination to determine whether you are eligible for the program. It is important that you accurately inform the doctor of your complete medical history.

Our team follows you up regularly in consultations by phone and e-mail. The follow-up is also done thanks to a weighing scale connected to a smartphone. You can also join a private Facebook group to get daily support.
