Rhinoplasty aims to embellish the shape of the nose by correcting possible imperfections.
Before the procedure
A study of the nasal pyramid and its relation to the rest of the face is carried out by the surgeon, taking into account the patient’s motivations and requests. The preoperative assessment is carried out in accordance with medical protocol and our anaesthetist will see you at the latest 48 hours prior to your procedure.
DAY D – 30: It is strongly recommended to stop smoking.
DAY D – 10: Stop taking any medication containing aspirin or any anti-inflammatory medication.
Certain types of anaesthesia may require you to be fasting 6 hours prior to the procedure.
Average duration: between 1 hour and 3 hours 30.
The incisions of the rhinoplasty are hidden inside the nostrils (“closed” rhinoplasty) or under the tips of the nose (“open” rhinoplasty), and this therefore results in no visible scars on the outside.
From these incisions, the skin covering the bony structure is loosened to reach the osteocartilaginous structure (nose frame) and correct it. The sutures are made with very fine (resorbable) threads inside the nose.
At the end of the procedure, a shaping bandage is made on the surface of the nose using small adhesive strips. A plaster is sometimes applied and gauze wicks are placed in the nose.
After the procedure
The postoperative effects of a rhinoplasty are rarely painful, the main consequence being the inability to breathe through the nose. An oedema (swelling) and ecchymoses (bruises) may appear around the eyelids. It is recommended to rest and to avoid any kind of effort in the days following the procedure. It is also recommended to sleep with your head elevated.
The gauze wicks are removed around the 3rd day and the plaster is removed around the 7th day after the procedure. The socio-professional life can usually be resumed after 10 to 20 days, depending on the extent of the ecchymoses.
A term of at least 6 to 9 months is necessary to appreciate the result of a rhinoplasty, knowing that the final appearance will only be obtained after at least one year.
