Injections with botulinum toxin help to reshape certain parts of the face and to soften wrinkles and furrows.
Principle
Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by a bacterium which, when injected, temporarily paralyses the muscles responsible for the appearance of expression lines, while maintaining facial mobility. The product has different commercial names depending on the pharmaceutical companies that produce it (Azzalure®, Botox®, Bocouture®, Vistabel®, Xéomin®, … ).
Applications
Injected in very small doses into a muscle, botulinum toxin temporarily causes the muscle to relax gradually. It is an absorbable product that is harmless to the body.
Expression lines arise from the movements of our face when we express our emotions: horizontal wrinkles on the forehead, frown wrinkles, crow’s-feet, fine vertical lines at the corner of the lips, … In young people, the skin regains its smooth appearance after each muscle contraction, but from the age of thirty onwards, the skin becomes less elastic and ends up keeping the mark of small furrows when it is solicited. The furrows will then gradually deepen and remain permanently visible.
Botulinum toxin injection is mainly used on the face to “embellish” it and/or correct certain signs of ageing:
- Forehead: treatment of forehead wrinkles and eyebrows (“frown wrinkles”)
- Corner of the eyes: treatment of “crow’s-feet”
- Corner of the lips: treatment of marionette lines
Thanks to botulinum toxin injections, the skin is smooth and wrinkles are reduced. The face is relaxed while maintaining its natural mobility.
The results are visible from the third day and are optimal fifteen days after the session. The effect of the product lasts approximately six months.
